My Socks ROCK!

They're done. They're DONE! THEY ARE DONE!!!!

My very first pair of socks. They are squishy - and springy - and they massage my feet with every wonderful step! So, without further ado, here are some pictures.

The socks were knit to be reversible, and the two sides are very distinct! The "reverse" side really shows the ribs and cables whereas the "normal" side is much more mellow. The striping is inherent in the yarn and had little to do with my knitting. I'd stitched in a few different sizes and never could really get the 'pooling' effect shown on the actual pattern. I know I'm not the only one that ended up with this color scheme; but I must admit, I really wanted to get that effect!

This is a better picture of the "normal" side and shows the cables more clearly. You can also see the ribbing that is on both the foot as well as the instep.

Another view of the leg - with a better look at the short-row heel. I really liked this heel technique. It is unbelievable SQUISHY! It was challenging to knit since it is so dense and really curled up tightly on the needles. I knit using two circulars rather than four double-points, which may have made things more challenging, but who knows? I doubt I'll go back to double-points unless I have to (and I did for my Jaywalker socks).

In this view, they are both "reversed". Again, the ribs and cables are very visible.

Finally, a close-up of the pair; one right side, one wrong side. The light is a little crummy, but so it goes.

I'm excited about next month's sock! I can't wait for the yarn to arrive and to start poring over the pattern. I'm torn as to whether or not I should splurge and order the Addi Turbo needles (everyone seems to knit on them) and give them a shot. The Crystal Palace needles that I've been using don't have a good seam between the bamboo and the cable and it's been difficult to get the yarn to slide back on to the circular.

Whatever.

It's just more money to spend on knitting foo ... right?

Your socks really look perfect! I was hoping for the striping, but got really funky pooling. That's how life/knitting goes. Great photos of the socks. I'll post photos when I finish: my blog

Love your socks! Mine striped on the foot, but the leg is a little different - no pooling, but not quite stripes either. I'm almost finished with mine, hopefully this week, but there's a progress shot over at my place!

Wow! Your first socks, really? Very impressive (my first were plain vanilla socks). Great job!

Mine pooled and striped. See:my blog. Isn't it funny how you want (most of the time) what you didn't get? Anyway, I'm happy, though.

nice job - they look great! I got both pooling and striping. You can seem them back a couple of days ago.

The rare times I do the two circ method, I actually prefer my (very pricey but wonderful) ebony 2,5 mm cirs.

Wow - great job! I just finished frogging back to the first cable and switched to bigger needles. My first attempt had the pooling effect on the leg. With the larger needles, I'm getting more of the striping. You can see the frogged pair (b4 frogging) on my blog.

You socks do look perfect! Mine are coming out stripe-y too, which I'm seriously excited about. I didn't want to pool.
Congrats!

Nice job - I can't believe it's your first pair of socks! For what it's worth, I'm a big addi turbo fan.

Ooh - those look great! My skein seems to have no purple at all, but yours look so great that I may have to get over that disappointment! ;)

Another high recommendation for the Addi Turbos here - I am spoiled for all other circs now. Go ahead and splurge - you won't regret it.

I have used two circular addi's for sock knitting for a while now but I recently switched to the KnitPicks classic circulars (the NON interchangeable ones). They are very pointy (which makes them especially nice for cables and lace), the cable is super flexible, the finish is smooth, and how can you beat the $5 price tag? I highly recommend giving them a try!

Great socks! I like the striping effect.

I use DPN's from Knit Picks and also have the interchangeable needles and love them. I have no complaints using them for these socks. You can see my progress at my website jrsas.blogspot.com (still learning HTML)

Not to be a downer or anything but your cables dont look right at all. When I looked at others yours just dont match. They do look great though and I dont say this to upset you. It looks as if you didnt carry the stitches over and complete the cable crossings.

I think your socks look fabulous, Anonymous! If it's worth saying it's worth owning up to.

I haven't even had the courage to try this pattern, it is such a departure from my comfort zone. Well done. :)
